"Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas." - Albert Einstein
Dear parents/guardians,
I am fortunate to work with your children this year. I am confident we will have a great year.
About myself:
I joined Hillside High School - Hornets Academy team in fall 2019
I started my North Carolina teaching experience in Durham Public Schools. I returned to DPS from WCPSS, after an absence of six years. Previously to teaching in North Carolina, when living in California, I worked as a Community Teaching Fellow in Math and Science for University of California in a partnership with high schools in OC California. I also served as a Math tutor for Santa Ana College and MESA (Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement) program - College chapter.
In addition to teaching, I have a long experience in technical design.
I received a BA in History with a minor in Education (concentration in Mathematics) from University of California, Irvine. I received my license in Mathematics at North Carolina Central University, where I also attended the Master of Arts in History program.
I am currently licensed in secondary Mathematics and 9-12 History.
Previously, I studied Mathematics - Physics (Mechanics) at Emil Racovita College and Design of Chemical Equipment and Installations at Politechnica University Bucharest.
About the Math curriculum:
The present Math curriculum is centered on students’ understanding of conceptual Mathematics. Our main goal is to develop students’ problem solving abilities in all areas of study, assuring that our students will become well prepared critical thinkers. Students will develop skills and strategies to find sound solutions to real-world problems and communicate them effectively. Procedural skills are still important in problem solving strategies. I will help them use those skills in conjunction with a deeper understanding of the concepts. Students will have opportunities every day to discuss problems and work in small collaborative groups to better make sense of Mathematics.
I have very high expectations of all students and I hope you and I will work together to make this year a success for every student.
Please contact me with any questions or concerns at [email protected]
Let's have a wonderful, fun, and successful school year!
